How to Use Your Rising Sign to Live in Alignment | Get Started

Lisa Kiss | JUL 14, 2026

What if your birth chart wasn't just something to read, but something you could actually live?

When most people begin learning astrology, they start by discovering their Sun, Moon, and Rising signs. Then they quickly find themselves overwhelmed by transits, aspects, retrogrades, and endless terminology.

While all of those layers have value, I've found that the simplest and most transformative place to begin is with your rising sign.

Your rising sign creates what I call your 12 Seasons, a personal calendar that helps you understand when you're naturally meant to begin, build, reflect, rest, and grow. It's the method I've been using for years, and it's become the foundation of how I teach astrology today.

If you've ever wondered how to apply astrology to your everyday life, this is where I'd start.

Why I Created the Harness Your 12 Seasons Method

When I first began studying astrology, I loved how rich and layered it was. But I also noticed that many people struggled with the same question:

"How do I actually use this?"

Astrology is a language. Like any language, it can feel intimidating when you're learning the vocabulary.

That's why I developed the Harness Your 12 Seasons approach.

Rather than trying to memorize everything at once, I encourage people to observe one season at a time. Every 30 days, your birth chart naturally shifts your attention toward a different area of life. Instead of fighting those changes, you can begin working with them.

For me, this has become the most practical way to use astrology because it transforms abstract concepts into everyday experiences.

Your Rising Sign Is Your Personal New Year

One of the biggest mindset shifts I've made is letting go of the idea that January 1 is everyone's New Year.

Living in Canada, January often feels like a time for slowing down, staying warm, and conserving energy. It has never felt natural to launch into ambitious goals the moment winter settles in.

While I love setting intentions, I believe timing matters.

Spring, beginning with Aries season, feels much closer to the energy of starting fresh. But even beyond that, I believe each of us has our own personal New Year.

That New Year begins when the Sun enters your rising sign.

Your rising sign marks the beginning of your First House, the area of the chart connected to identity, vitality, and new beginnings. Every year, when that season returns, it's an invitation to begin again.

This is the foundation of the Harness Your 12 Seasons method.

Living Your Chart One Month at a Time

Instead of trying to understand your entire natal chart all at once, imagine focusing on just one theme each month.

Every zodiac season activates a different house in your chart.

That means every 30 days, your attention naturally shifts toward a different area of your life.

Some seasons encourage you to initiate.

Others ask you to reflect.

Some bring social energy.

Others invite solitude.

Rather than expecting yourself to operate at the same pace all year long, you begin recognizing that your energy naturally ebbs and flows.

To me, this mirrors nature beautifully.

Trees don't bloom every month.

The seasons don't rush themselves.

Neither should we.

Why Cyclical Living Matters

Modern culture often celebrates constant productivity.

We're encouraged to keep achieving, keep hustling, and keep checking things off our to do lists.

But sustainable growth requires rest.

Sleep is one of the most foundational forms of restoration, but it's only one kind of rest. We also need emotional rest, mental rest, creative rest, and spiritual rest.

When you begin tracking your own astrological seasons, you give yourself permission to honour both movement and stillness.

That's where mindfulness and astrology come together.

Astrology isn't asking you to become someone else.

It's helping you understand the rhythm you've always had.

What Happens During Your First House Season?

Your First House season is your personal New Year.

It's often accompanied by a noticeable increase in energy and motivation.

Many people naturally feel inspired to:

  • start new projects

  • improve their health

  • refresh their wardrobe

  • experiment with personal style

  • prioritize movement

  • create new routines

  • strengthen boundaries

  • initiate plans they've been postponing

While every rising sign expresses these themes differently, the underlying invitation is the same.

Come back to yourself.

How My First House Season Looks as a Cancer Rising

As a Cancer Rising, every Cancer season feels like someone quietly flips the lights back on.

After my Twelfth House season, when I naturally crave more rest and solitude, Cancer season arrives with fresh momentum.

This year I've noticed that energy showing up in simple but meaningful ways.

I've been wearing more blue, my favourite colour, and challenging myself to wear pieces from my closet that I hadn't reached for in years instead of buying something new.

I've returned to supportive wellness practices like herbal tinctures, castor oil packs, and paying closer attention to my overall health.

I completed my Reiki Master training, something I'd wanted to do for years, as another step toward strengthening my energetic boundaries and deepening my spiritual practice.

Movement has also become a priority again.

I've been enjoying nature walks, yoga in the park, and weekly tennis with my boyfriend. While tennis definitely isn't my natural sport, I've found joy in simply trying something new and moving my body in a different way.

Looking back, all of these experiences reflect classic First House themes.

Not because I forced them.

Because this season naturally supported them.

Your Chart Becomes a Calendar

One of my favourite ways to describe this method is that your natal chart becomes your personal calendar.

Instead of asking,

"What should I be doing right now?"

You begin asking,

"What season am I in?"

That simple shift changes everything.

It replaces pressure with curiosity.

It replaces comparison with self awareness.

It reminds you that your life unfolds in cycles, not straight lines.

What If You Don't Know Your Rising Sign?

Your rising sign is calculated using your birth time, so having an accurate birth time is important.

Once you know your rising sign, you can begin following each zodiac season through your chart and observing how different themes naturally emerge throughout the year.

The goal isn't to predict every moment.

The goal is to notice your own patterns.

Over time, you'll begin trusting your personal rhythm instead of trying to force yourself into someone else's timeline.

Harness Your 12 Seasons

The more I've practiced this approach, the more I've realized that astrology doesn't have to feel complicated.

It can be simple.

It can be practical.

It can help you plan your life with greater intention while also giving yourself permission to rest when that's what the season calls for.

Whether you're just beginning to explore astrology or you've been studying your birth chart for years, this framework offers a grounded way to experience astrology in everyday life.
